Rise of the Tomb Raider - "Lara has seen trauma and those feelings are real'
When Crystal Dynamics revealed the first trailer for Rise of the Tomb Raider it depicted Lara visiting a shrink following her gamble at Yamatai in the start game. In an interview posted to the official Tomb Raider blog, Ascent of the Tomb Raider managing director Brian Horton, addresses the content of that first trailer.
"We believe the first trailer showcased a very interesting dynamic of Lara Croft uncomfortable with the idea beingness questioned by someone, even challenged by someone, that maybe what she saw in Yamatai wasn't true," Horton says. "And so, there's a stress that she's feeling, and the tapping of her anxiety and the squeezing on the chair… some people have interpreted that equally a weakness or every bit a disorder, and the way nosotros've interpreted that was anticipation to get out of the situation and just keep her adventures."
Horton continues:
"So, the concept of her being agitated or affected emotionally by Yamatai—it'southward true, she has seen trauma and those feelings are real—but what we're more than interested in is her destiny to be the tomb raider, and to see her start to embrace how she feels more than like herself when she's out in the field, experiencing these things, searching for the world's secrets, than she is bars in a room, in a society that she doesn't experience connected to anymore. She feels more than home beingness away from home."
Featuring epic, high-octane action moments set in the most beautiful hostile environments on earth, Rise of the Tomb Raider promises to deliver a cinematic survival action adventure where players will join Lara Croft on her first tomb raiding expedition as she seeks to detect the hugger-mugger of immortality.
Tomb Raider has long been a franchise with a big focus on exploration and puzzle solving, also as providing some platforming thrills and shooting sequences. 2022's Tomb Raider, focused more than in creating a strong origin story for Lara Croft, and helping players of a new generation identify with the heroine in a more subtle way, by introducing the tomb chemical element in a more linear but yet constructive and highly-seasoned form.
This fourth dimension around she is more than prepared and better equipped, to face bigger challenges and explore larger tombs with much more puzzle solving and platforming action. The surroundings of Siberia will offer more than extreme conditions for Lara to adapt to, and her new equipment will come in bang-up use when facing avalanches and climbing unsafe icy peaks.
Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics demonstrated the first gameplay of Rise of the Tomb Raider. The game looks absolutely stunning, especially with the impressive Siberia setting'due south weather condition and environmental effects taking centre phase.
Ascent of the Tomb Raider is scheduled to arrive in Winter 2022 exclusively on Xbox platforms.
